Acrylic Paintings

When the boys got older and I began having more time, I got right back into my art. Mostly painting with acrylics. But it was when my cousin Marie, also an artist, came to Michigan (she has been living in Florida forever now) and we spent 14 days together up north painting (I always wanted to do something like this), that is when I really, and I mean really, started painting and painting and painting.

While I had children and was a stay at home wife and mother, my artwork got put on the back burner. I always managed to do a little bit here and there. Maybe I was expressing my fervor in another way, the decorating, gardens, etc…I have to tell you—my sons and I made a lot of “stuff” and painted together.

I took 5 art classes in high school in 4 years; I was already passionate about my work. A few ink drawings were stolen, a back handed complement I suppose. My father had his eye on one piece that was taken and was very disappointed.

In middle school a
nun accused me of
cheating on a tissue
paper rooster, she
did not think I did it
myself. It was pretty
good. I loved working
on that project; I still
love roosters.

I remember being good
at drawing and I loved to
color even when I was very
young. I remember that
before I was 9-years old
my father asked me to help
him paint the living room, I
painted the trim and the
closet. I liked it!

My husband says I’m prolific. Hmmmmmmm. If “prolific” means that I am drawing, painting, making something, thinking of making something, thinking of painting, reading about painting, looking at paintings; studying light and shadows and shapes and color and studying objects while I’m thinking how I would paint them, then, yes –I suppose that I could agree with my husband and say, “I’m kind of prolific.”

I live with my husband in Michigan, near Ann Arbor. I collect miniature chairs, love to garden, decorate, hang out with close friends, I’m particularly fond of being outdoors and I think God’s greatest invention is water. Water is nice to look at, listen to, be in, smell and certainly taste. I love all of these things and many more, but there is one thing that I am passionate about, and that is art.
